General Info Project Title: Novel Sensors based on Laser Ablated Graphene

Period: 3 years

Goal of the Project The goal of this project is novel gas sensors preparation, based on graphene/polymer nanocomposites, decreased in size and advanced in performance, by means of laser ablation techniques.

Objectives
  • Synthesis of graphene/polymer nanocomposites by (photo)polymerization in miniemulsion technique, toward water dispersion of composite nanoparticles
  • Electroconductive, transparent and flexible composite film formation from hybrid aqueous dispersions under standard atmospheric conditions
  • UV laser ablation of the prepared polymer/graphene composite films for obtaining novel composite material with advanced gas sensor properties
  • IR laser ablation of the prepared polymer/graphene composite films for obtaining novel composite material with advanced gas sensor properties
  • Study of the kinetics and mechanisms of ablation of polymer (polyacrylate and polymetacrylate)/graphene reinforced composites
  • Determination of the influence of irradiation conditions (laser energy, pulses, repetition frequency), and reaction conditions (concentrations, weight ratios, amounts) on the process and on the final product properties
  • Optimization of the process parameters toward pre-determined mechanical and electrical properties of the novel materials
  • Characterization of the deposited films and selection of the materials for prototype preparation
  • Study of the prototypes performance, using of the end-user capacities
